5 out of 5 stars Astonishing   December 7, 2008

It's astonishing that author Daniel Silva keeps playing variations of the same theme so magnificently. And it's astonishing how few people, relatively speaking, have heard of his work.

In MOSCOW RULES, Silva does it again: An intricate and detailed plot that actually is plausible, coupled with breathtaking detail that powerfully displays the author's research. The story may be fiction, but it is completely credible and extremely disturbing.

With the passage of time, Silva has moved his protagonist, a deep-cover Israeli security agent, from searching for former Nazis to working against Islamic terrorism. This newest thriller combines a timely blend of Muslim terrorist interests with recently spawned Russian oligarch billionaires.

For those of us who have read this entire series, the characters may be getting less interesting with familiarity. Yet MOSCOW RULES is as compelling as every other book Silva has written. Not only will its readers be engrossed: They also certainly will learn something as well.

5 out of 5 stars Silva at his best.   November 26, 2008
Mr. Silva did a great deal of research before writing this book and it shows, excellent was of taking the reader into the story and making him feel a part of the action.

5 out of 5 stars Silva's latest and best   November 24, 2008

I've been reading Daniel Silva since he began the Gabriel Allon novels and this one ranks at the top of the list. The plot sparks with connection to contemporary events and is convincingly rooted there. Silva always presents intriguing plots and convincing characters, but this one engages the reader with a sharpness and realism that make it hard to put down. Allon himself is drawn even sharper and his personality provides the driving force in the book. The danger mounts as he and his usual team go after Ivan Kharkov, a Russian who thrives in the murky world of terrorism and arms dealing. The moral choices they face and the conviction they live by come to life in this one.
I was beginning to wonder if Silva could maintain the Allon series and I should never have doubted him. He invigorates not only this book, but hopefully the ones to come with a new sense of urgency. A great read.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant again, great insight into Russia   November 21, 2008

Great book. Silva does it again. I felt as though I took a tour with Gabriel through Russia and Italy. The details of Europe is what makes Silva so brilliant for me. I can really "see" what he's seeing.
Fantastic story that follow the same script as in the past books but as in the others, enough change up and redirection and continued build up of characters to keep you interested. He introduces us to the new Russia which makes me a little more than concerned. Great insight.
I am a big fan of Silva it grows with each book.

4 out of 5 stars Cross Country Drive   November 19, 2008
I've either read or listened to all of Silva's novels. Have always enjoyed Gabriel Allon. This did not disapoint me. A fun start right off the bat! The reader was excellent and kept me alert and interested! It might be a good point to give Mr. Allon a rest and try something new. The formula is close to getting stale; not yet, but close.
