Reacher completely out of character December 26, 2008 This is what can happen after an author has had a good degree of success -- they start to deviate from the formula that made them successful. Rather than polute this series, I recommend Lee Child start another series devoted entirely to his political, religous or other views that the world is waiting to learn about with baited breath. Then, when he's gotten it all out of his system, he can return to writing the Reacher novels we all know and love.
Hope and Despair December 20, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Jack Reacher travels light, usually buying a pair of clothes and underwear when he arrives at his next destination. It's the way he's been since getting out of the Army, traveling around the country, sort of a modern day Lone Ranger. Get him on your good side and you couldn't ask for a better friend or champion. Get him on your bad side and lookout, because the kind of justice Jack Reacher meets out can't be found in any law book.
In this outing Reacher is in Colorado, leaving a town called Hope, on his way to a small place called Despair. However, when he gets there they call him a vagrant and find him housing in the local hoosegow. Needless to say this doesn't sit very well without our hero, so when he gets out he heads on back to Hope to try and find out what wrong with Despair.
Do I have to say that there will be those who get on Reacher's wrong side? Do I have to tell you who will come out on top? Do I have to say that this book is as good as anything Lee Child has ever written? As far as I'm concerned Jack Reacher is just about the best doggone character in mystery thriller fiction today.
Woman disappointed by Jack Reacher for the first time. December 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I only discovered the Jack Reacher novels two years ago and until now I have thoroughly enjoyed every one. Although the mystery in this book kept me perplexed for several chapters I didn't really enjoy it. I was put off by Jack Reacher's new attitude toward the U.S. military. He is entitled to his opinion but I find the idea that it is now more honorable to desert than to serve insulting.
Jack Reacher as Clint Eastwood December 18, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
We've read and seen it in a dozen westerns: good guy comes to town, gets afoul of the local lawmen and finds himself persona non grata pretty quick.
For any hero in a white hat, this always bcomes an obsession to find the truth and right it. Reacher doesn't disappoint, as Lee Childs once again comes up with a a great read and satisfying ending.
Get them all. Start at the beginning and work your way through this series about an ex MP who wanders the country and always seems to fnd himself in a scrape with local law - which he promptly takes upon himself to remedy.
Can't wait until May when the next novel comes out. December 17, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
