5 out of 5 stars Use of Mercs should concern all of us   November 2, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

This is a thought provoking book. Scahill did an illuminary job.
I was unaware on the extent of the use and role of "mercs" like Blackwater. Even the thought of their use should concern everyone regardless of political party.
For a moment, step back from your political mindsets and think through this.
Here we have a solid, professional fighting force that can be deployed without any oversight for potential conflicts anywhere (i.e.Iran, Syria, or Russia). With deep connections into the US Govt some think Blackwater's actions are sanctioned.
No matter how professional they are... they are not subject to the UCMJ, Geneva Convention or even basic laws and that is at best outrageous.
Think about those last two sentences before slipping back to your politics.
Frankly, speaking, this should concern all Americans.

3 out of 5 stars Warriors without control   October 25, 2008

1 out of 5 stars Breathtakingly Partisan in its Scope   October 20, 2008

I scarcely know where to begin. The book is absurdly biased, badly written and more than a little rambling.

Worse, this is documentary in the Michael Moore vein. I'm not a conservative and I'm no fan of current US foreign policy but this book is the worst sort of yellow journalism. This is a topic which deserves serious discussion. Maybe someone will write such a book but this isn't it. Save your time and money

2 out of 5 stars Twice as long as it needs to be   October 6, 2008

The pages are filled with more information than is needed. There are some interesting tidbits, but a lot of it is just biased or unnecesary. Its a struggle to stay interested in. Oh, and on page 97 the word 'Constructed' is spelled wrong. It is definately thoroughly researched, but aparently it includes evey word of that research, no revision to remove any excess fluff.

1 out of 5 stars Left-wing Hit Job   September 29, 2008
1 out of 20 found this review helpful

This is not an objective look at Blackwater but a left-wing hit job on the private security company, Donald Rumsfeld, George Bush and the Iraq war. If your views line up with Dennis Kucinich then this might be for you.
