Very Impressed! Learn about the man behind the armor...and then some! April 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had reservations about reading this book. Was this truly a good book to read or was all the great reviews on this site just fluff from Halo fans? Would reading this take the mystique away from the legendary Master Chief?
I just finished reading the e-book format on my Palm Z22 PDA and all I can say is WOW! WOW! WOW! This story blew me away!
Not only was this a fantastic book to read, it was incredibly well done and Master Chief is as legendary as ever. I was pleased to be able to put a human face on Master Chief in my imagination and know that it did not spoil who MC is or what he's all about - it only made him more respectable. I am in as much awe of John 117 (aka Master Chief) out of armor just as much as he is in armor. Kudos to the author for pulling this off in this very well written book.
I'm ready for the next book in the series!
I Love This Book April 9, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Eric Nylund wrote a book called Halo: Fall of Reach. It is a very good book and all through it you can't wait to see what happens next. I think if the made books more based on the games the series, it would be much better than it ever would be I think It's about a group of highly trained soldiers called Spartans after the Spartans at Thermopylae over 2500 years before the books timeline.
I think that it's a great book because it's a non-action book. It starts with a Woman named Dr.Hasley who finds children to have for The Spartan II program, and they have to go through many surgeries to become the super soldiers they are. The main character is John, one of the children picked for the Spartan II program. After the first big mission John became the Master Chief, the best of all the Spartans. As the book progresses John and his Spartans encounter an alien race called the Covenant, an enemy of the UNSC.
The message I see is that no matter who or what you lose you have to keep going especially in combat because if you don't you'll end up dead, like your friend.
Halo: The Fall of Reach March 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an action packed thriller! "Halo: The Fall of Reach" is an okay book I think. This novel is about how the way the great Spartan, "Master Chief" came to be. It is hard for someone young to read, and has some foul language. This book has some very, vivid, intense action scenes. After saying that, when the Spartan's aren't in battle, the story is very boring. Master Chief's real name is John. He was taken away from his family when he was young to become an elite soldier called a Spartan. Every day, they train and train, until John and the other Spartans are needed in battle, a battle to save humanity. They are needed to fight the brutal covenant. As the covenant attacks, the Spartans stay ready. The Spartans one rule is, "Never Surrender". Master chief also knows that he will have to live if the humans will ever have a chance against the covenant, on the strange, artificial world of Halo. You will love this book if you like to read, and you can understand war novels. It is a very fast paced book, and uses a very adult dialogue. In all, I will give this book 3 out of 5 stars.
An encouraging book fit for young adults! February 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Halo: Fall of Reach is an encouraging book by Erik Nylund that brings out the character in people, especially the Hako gamer fans. It's a science fiction book about a boy who gets sent to a new facility for spartans. Spartans are highly developed soldiers who have the highest rank a soldier can have. It really encourages bravery, trust and, well, the whole storyline itself. this book definatly deserves a four and a half out of five stars but I cant do that so I gave it a five. I recomend this book to any young adult who likes the Halo games.
A Fine Addition to Military Sci-Fi January 20, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have not really played Halo, but after hearing several people who have absolutely rave about the books I decided to check them out. I was not disappointed. One small problem I did have was with the editing. There were several typos (ie colleges instead of colleagues)which tend to take me out of the story.
If you are a fan of Robert Heinlien's Starship Troopers or Warhammer 40K Horus Rising (The Horus Heresy)or even Frank Herbert's Dune (Dune Chronicles, Book 1) you will greatly enjoy this book. Also, fans of ancient history and mythology will love all the names and references that pay homage to the ancients.
