4 out of 5 stars A Heroic Tale   December 25, 2008
You'll either love this book or hate it... and your politics will likely dictate which. Parts of it will make your heart race and your jaw drop. It's as amazing a wartime exploit as has ever been written, a tale of personal courage and dogged determination. I honor Luttrell's epic service and sacrifice, and hope the burden of his service isn't too heavy a load. I honor the rest of his teammates and their ultimate sacrifices, as well as those of the rescuers who lost their lives in their ultimate expression of love. All that said, it's time to look at the book beyond feelings and admiration. Frankly, it's not a particularly well written book, despite a professional author being involved in producing it. The largest problem are Luttrell's political comments that blunt the force of this book. I'm not offended by them personally... I'm almost as much a right-wing lunatic as he is! My fear, however, is that the commentary may take this book out of "classic" war story category. If this book is somehow "dismissed" as right-wing commentary, it will severely deprive future generations of a heroic military story that's so very worthy of being told over and over. And who better to tell it than the man that lived it. I wish Luttrell had been advised to write a more understated book.

5 out of 5 stars Lone Survivor   December 24, 2008
Well written true story of an American fighting for freedom against Afgan terrorists. A must read for anyone remotely interested in the defence of America, Democracy and Freedom. A tribute to the quality of training we give to our young volunteers to prepare them for the harshness of war and save their lives. A true tribute to how our troops overcome the ignorant political and bureaucratic roadblocks placing them unnecessarily in harms way. Jaren Leet

5 out of 5 stars Heros all   December 20, 2008
I could not put this wonderfully written book down. If there is such a thing as a page turner, this is it. Heroism drips from these pages. May God Bless these brave men the rest of their lives. I just read and loved a WWII memoir that I highly recommend Walking Through Fire, An Iwo Jima Survivor's Remembrance

4 out of 5 stars Good First Person Account   December 20, 2008
Good first person account of SEALs. This is a must read! It took me along so I was there! This is the type of writing that is far more intresting than "professional." This is real guts/been/there type! For another book in the same genre, I recommend Walking Through Fire: An Iwo Jim Survivor's Remembrance, by WWII Navy Vet Arvy Geurin, who was on that island and lived to tell about it. Walking Through Fire, An Iwo Jima Survivor's Remembrance

5 out of 5 stars Leaves you with Passion and sorrow!!   December 18, 2008
What can I say about this book... To put it in perfect written word would be impossible, I'm sure just like this book was written.

Marcus Luttrell, a true American Patriot...

I've always had a true passion and respect for our Armed Forces, but I connected with this book, the constant struggle to be the best and in the end the struggle to survive, Marcus lived a life time in less then 6 years as a Navy Seal. I will always remember this story and the men he fought with, Petty Officer Matt Axelson, Lieutenant Michael Murphy and Petty Officer Danny Dietz. I felt like I knew these guys, I cried with Marcus, and I will never forget this true story.

God bless America and God bless you Marcus!!
