Best ever, accurate WWII as it happened December 14, 2008 Bought Vol. 1 and gave it to my Father, who served in North Africa during this time, and he loved it, it brought him to tears that someone finally told the way it was. Got on the waiting list for Vol. 2, and got it when it came out, it was like giving food to a starving child , he grabbed it and was totally engulfed for weeks. What is so amazing, is that, he finally found out what was happening while he was there, no 24 hour newscasts in those days, so he has waited for 70 years to find out what was happening over the next hill or to the other companies of men that he knew. Thanks to Rick Atkinson, finally a book of World War II that details what those guys went through, can't wait for the third one, please hurry, he wants to read it before he leaves this world and he is 89. My uncle is still alive too, and was with Patton, and he is anxious for the new book about the Battle of the Bulge. He is the only one left out of his battalion. Hurry!!!
The Day of Battle December 12, 2008 This is a wonderful story of the War in Sicily and Italy. Having a father that actually served in these wars make them extra special and we have ordered for other members of our family.
The Day of Battle: The War in Sicily and Italy 1943-1944 December 1, 2008 Once again I enjoyed my Amazon purchase. The product cost was very reasonable and delivery was prompt (3-5 business days) and the product arrived in excellent condition.
Disappointed November 25, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
The first volume, An Army At Dawn, was truly a magnificent book. This second volume, although a good read, appears superficial at times. The seemingly gratuitous use of the f-bomb when using quotes was a major distraction for me. It does not live up to the greatness of the first volume.
A Birthday Wish November 17, 2008 I can't really give you a review of the book I purchased because I never read it. My youngest son (actually my baby, only in his late 40's)has a birthday in October. Its hard to buy something for someone who lives half way across the country from you. It seems to get harder each year. I know he reads a lot, but so do I. However I like to pick out my own books and figured he would feel the same way. I know we do not read the same type of books so except for sending him gift cards I have never sent him a book. This year though, I came out and said "what Would you like for your birthday? He immediately answered "The Day of Battle: the war in Sicily and Italy, 1943- 1944 (The Liberation Trilogy)" He was currently reading the first book and really liked it and even told me where to find it on Amazon. I ordered it that night and he had it in less than a week. When and if the third one comes out I'll be back and order that too. Matter of fact, if anyone else in my family liked to read I would be ordering for them too. The price was right and the service was great.
