When the Student is Ready... July 14, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
When I first began studying Enochian Magick 8 years ago, I bought every book I could find, and there were few, and still had a hard time making sense of it all. I finally put those studies on the backburner and have, in the ensuing years studied many other esoteric subjects. When I recently felt the urge to renew my studies of Enochia, I was blessed to come across this book and am absolutely thrilled with it. It seems to prove the saying, "When the student is ready, the teacher appears."
Everything you need July 7, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was always intimidated by the enochian system and so I was thrilled to see Duquette had written a book on it. He does a great job explaining the history and variations of the systems before getting to how he works. Included is everything you need to construct your own items and begin working. My favorite part about Duquette's books his enthusiasm and encouragement. Get in the work and begin doing the work. You'll never see results if you never try.
A Definitive Book on the Subject July 2, 2008 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
Lon DuQuette has written the best book I've ever encountered with regard to the Enochian system - it is a complete guide to the Angelic operations of Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley. "Enochian Vision Magick" is both well-written and easily accessible, even for beginners in the art. The historical context is invaluable in aiding the reader to fully grasp the complexity and intricacy of the operations. By including all the received material prior to the Enochian phase (especially the Heptarchia), DuQuette successfully endeavors to attune the reader in a similar manner to Dee and Kelly, thereby increasing the overall understanding and effectiveness of the workings. This book is simply superb and would be a great benefit to any esoteric library! This may be DuQuette's best book thus far...
DVD on Enochian Magick by Lon Milo DuQuette is available! June 28, 2008 5 out of 22 found this review helpful
I wonder why Lon Milo Duquette's Enochian Magick - A Treatise on Angelic Evocation, in which Lon Milo DuQuette narrates this subject in step by step fashion is not bundled with this work? I find this video to be the best possible source for anyone from beginner to advanced in this area. I originally purchased the video originally on VHS some years ago and next bought the expanded version when it was recently released on DVD. I looked for it on Amazon and then finally found it while searching the Internet. I have read many of the author's other books and found them humorous in parts, and in some instances informative, albeit a bit lacking in real depth when it comes to serious investigative explanations. Perhaps he should revisit his earlier efforts and return to the quality and quantity of what is contained in that particular DVD.
A Book I Wish I Wrote June 17, 2008 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
"Enochian Vision Magick" may be DuQuette's finest book to date and his greatest contribution to modern students of magic in general and Enochian in particular. Looking at the core texts and using them in context, DuQuette provides a framework for working the various Enochian systems in a fashion similar to, if not identical, to the work undertaken by Dee and Kelly. Endorsements from Richard Kaczinski, Geoffrey James and Stephen Skinner round out the echoing applause of Clay Holden's Foreword. This is a book every student of Enochian will use and refer to.
More importantly, DuQuette appears to have joined the small but growing chorus of voices - a chorus which includes Dr. Stephen Flowers, Dr. Joseph Lisiewski, and myself - that emphasize the need to perform rituals in the context they were written.
Stating that the Golden Dawn/Crowley rituals of Enochian have no resemblance to the rituals performed by Dee and Kelly, Duquette gives his obligatory kudos to those who have gone before him, but then states that he has not performed those rituals in about ten years. Clearly they are good, but not good enough, and those who work with the material in this book will see and understand why.
In some small way, whether he knows it or not, I am in part responsible for Bro. DuQuette's advancement along these lines as he states, "...in 2003 my O.T.O. Brother and Enochian magick adept Christos Pir sent me a computer disk of material from a marvelous Enochian seminar he presented in Pittston, Pennsylvania....I assure you, I could not have written this book without these materials and the profound insights of this great modern magician." It was the Institute for Hermetic Studies that invited Christos Pir to present that weekend, and we agree whole heartedly with DuQuette, it was a marvelous seminar.
