5 out of 5 stars Foxhole Faith   June 29, 2008

Chaplain McLaughlin has shared his experience in Iraq with prayers and personal reflections that capture the human and spiritual aspects of combat. As a retired Army Chaplain, I am so grateful for this resource that other chaplains can use in their ministry to our nation's military personnel. This is an outstanding book that anyone who wants an insider's view of combat ought to read. Hooah!

5 out of 5 stars A Moving, Informative Book!   June 27, 2008

Chaplain McLaughlin's book is an interesting and engaging collection of stories, reflections and prayers. It brings to light many interesting stories about the war in Iraq.... many are inspirational, many are sad, many are amazing .... it will cause you to examine your own life, and hopefully make you realize the price so many others pay for our freedoms.

4 out of 5 stars Experience teaches!   June 20, 2008

This military chaplain and Lutheran pastor has learned
to trust God's ways in the heat of war as he encounters
the faith and terrible struggles of soldiers battling in Iraq.
His blessings in many unique situations and the questions
the turmoil raises serve to call us to examine our own reactions.
Get ready to be disturbed, surprised, thankful, humbled.

5 out of 5 stars prayerful, powerful   June 16, 2008

Morning, Come Quickly

In non-political, prayerful, powerful prose and poetry, Chaplain McLaughlin shares his reflections on both the traumatic and spiritual effects of the war in Iraq -- not only on the warriors, but also on their families, friends, communities and countries.

Heard loudly and clearly is his message to the world: "We must all learn to pray for peace and then become an answer to that prayer."

Wanda Karriker, Ph.D. (Author "Morning, Come Quickly," a novel about extreme childhood trauma and the resiliency of the human spirit.)

5 out of 5 stars A great read for a look into faith on the frontlines and beyond   June 1, 2008

No Atheists In Foxholes offers an insightful glimpse into the spiritual mindset of individuals thrust into the frontlines of conflict. From the stateside aspect of a nation preparing for war, the harsh realities and heartfelt fellowship of troops in Iraq's Al Anbar Province, and introspective recollections of experiences shared with civilians in the midst of war, Patrick McLaughlin takes readers through a gauntlet of human emotion. His writing and accompanying original prayers take readers along the anxious path of our leaders, servicemembers and their families during a time of war and into the battlefield medical facilities where the ultimate sacrifice for freedom is paid with both military and civilian lives. McLaughlin reinforces the importance and power of prayer for more than just those directly involved in conflict and calls on readers to find their own prayer for peace no matter what their faith.
