Facism? Yes, Liberal facism. December 9, 2008 3 out of 8 found this review helpful
A really poorly written piece which does not take into account discernable facts, only propaganda which is treated entirely poorly. I am surprised this rated so highly by previous "readers". I will assume the have not read this trash, but are anxious to bash the Bush Administration.
She would do wonders as a Huffington Post writer...
A beguiling title to lure one in. December 3, 2008 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
The author spends a great deal of time dancing with the reader before getting to her point: Bush bashing, apples to oranges comparisons of history's despotic rulers to Bush's administration, a sketchy overview of Stalinism, Nazism and Fascism. For a more thorough lesson of what the author tried to convey, go to Amazon's book section under author Ayn Rand to read what she wrote decades ago about where America is going and the reasons for it doing so. Save your money by not buying this book and purchase one that is worth the expense and time to read.
Naomi you are my new favorite woman November 28, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
WOW! Just finished it. The books title "The End of America: Letter of Warning to Young Patriot" is exactly what it says. I can't wait to share it with my friends and family. It doesn't matter if you are a republican or democrat(or libertarian like me) because this book is for all Americans that believe in protecting our Constitution.
Naomi warns us, that based on history of countries or democracies that have fallen to dictatorships, America is making similar steps those countries/govts made right before they fell to fascism or totalitarianism. She calls this a "fascist shift". She researched the history of these once democratic countries and how they became dictatorship and gives us 10 steps a govt would take to become a dictatorship. She reminds us of some of the things our current government has done and is doing, for example; the patriot act, establishing secret prisons, developing a paramilitary force(blackwater)and how our government has almost ignored things like habeus corpus and the geneva convention to accused "enemy combatants" and in some cases, Americans, and many many more. Then she is able to compare all this stuff our current govt has been doing, to the pre-dictatorships of the past, like Hitler's and Mussolini's.
She is not saying Bush is like Hitler or anything like that. She is simply warning us that are current govt is taking almost parallel steps that democracies from the past had taken right before they became dictatorships.
The one thing I disliked about the read was a couple of the comparisons were a little too general. But most of the comparisons she made were very interesting and convincing.
Great book! Thanks Naomi, I am buying "Give Me Liberty" now, too bad I live in Thailand and it will take a couple weeks to get here.

Almost there! November 23, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in protecting liberty in America. Naomi Wolf has done a wonderful job drawing parallels between the historical rise of fascist movements in Russia, Italy, and Germany and what seems like more of the same in contemporary America. She does this tastefully by pointing out similarities to the "shadows" of the past, ever-so-carefully, as to not make any inappropriate comparisons between Nazi Germany and what we are currently experiencing in the United States.
As a "must read", I am giving it five stars, however, I think Naomi is missing an important aspect to her thesis; the Second Amendment. She only mentions it briefly in the book and does not give it the attention I believe it warrants. Perhaps she hasn't turned that corner yet, or perhaps she is strategically holding back because the liberal element of her fan base isn't willing to accept this argument. If it is the latter, it may be a brilliant move to allow those readers to turn the corner themselves. If she hasn't come to that conclusion yet, I hope she has the objectivity to get there. If McCain had won the election, I believe she would have gotten there already.
I just bought her next book, Give Me Liberty, which is supposed to outline what we can do about this disturbing trend in America. Maybe this sequel tackles the Second Amendment; maybe not. If it doesn't, perhaps she will write a third book devoted to the right to keep and bear arms in America. This topic requires a book devoted to the subject and would make a perfect volume to round out a trilogy.
With that said--Buy the book!
Don't buy this book! November 16, 2008 3 out of 23 found this review helpful
I bought this book because of several reviews. I was given the impression that it was an honest and objective book on the times, I was greatly disappointed. This is someone from a very large family or there's only a handful of people writing reviews under many different names, most of which are just plain bunk. In any case the book is anything but objective. But I did find the proper place for it, the city dump!
