From 1931 to 1934 he was with 25 Squadron at Hawkinge and was a member of the aerobatic team which performed at Hendon in 1933 with its wings tied together, to the delight of a massive crowd.After becoming a Flying Instructor in 1935 and seeing service with the Cambridge University Air Squadron, the outbreak of war found him as Commander of 46 Squadron. It was this squadron which took part in the Norwegian campaign and covered the Allied evacuation during which HMS Glorious was sunk with Cross and his men and aircraft aboard.
