Product Description There have been all manner of books written on the German Army since the end of World War II. Books on the men, their tactics, commanders, equipment, weaponry and histories of the major battles they fought in can be found on the bookshelves of almost all 20th Century history enthusiasts.Deutsche Soldaten is a stunning visual history of the German soldier and provides a unique reflection of how the men lived, ate, and washed themselves on the front, or behaved when at rest, what were their pastimes, ambitions, worries and how they spent their leave, through the collections of personal items and other artifacts they left behind. The author, an expert on 20th-Century military history and an avid collector of military items from many different armies, makes available to the general public for the first time all these artifacts which he has collected over the years in order to create this complete illustrated history. This book can best be understood as a G.I. Collector's Guide (Histoire and Collections, 2005) for the German soldier. The treatment is very similar with page after page of pieces of uniform and equipment the even the most knowledgeable collector will find new items amongst. There are a great many close up photographs that will be invaluable for collectors looking to see what the genuine article looks like.Lavishly illustrated with thousands of color photographs, this large format book is being jointly produced by Casemate and Andrea Press in Spain. To gain a full understanding of the level of detail contained in the book, please visit our website where you can see a selection of sample spreads. A bible-book for re-enactor July 14, 2010 A. Volchkov (Moscow, Russia) The book covers a huge number of topics on German soldier: from uniform, gears and weapon, through special equipment, medals - to food items, personal belongings, money, post-cards etc. etc. There're more than 1000 color photos of these items in the book. Textual information is presented as captions and short articles on each subject. Lots of interesting facts about history and use of items are in the text.
Information is packed into (only) 312 pages - but there's lots of information!
Some analogues of this book are available on market. But this is the latest and the fullest bible-book for German army reenactor and collectioner.
deutsche soldaten May 21, 2010 Kenneth I. Walton (laconia, NH, US) excellent book !! no other like it out there. I collect all german items, including items in this book. there are plenty of books for medals, uniforms, helmets, etc. but few books that show the less common personal items.
excelent resource guide-- it has it all!!!! April 27, 2010 Christina Fasula This book has it all, from uniforms to styles, to parafinalia. This book shows in great details. Excelent reference book for the collector, or just the currious.
Deutsche Soldaten February 9, 2010 Harlan W. Olson very informative, everything I wanted to know about the uniforms and everyday equipment of the World War II German soldier.
The Best book ever on the subject...PERIOD! January 29, 2010 Kevin Nazario Bartolomei (Ponce, Puerto Rico) This book is simply incredible. You will find , simple, straight to the point information on every single item carried by the german soldier in WW2. From toothpaste to socks, from fountain pens to condoms, from shoelaces to bullets, this is the most complete book I have ever seen. The author deserves a price just for putting all this stuff together in one volume and organized in a way is super easy to read and to find what your are interested in. Is beyond words, a truly excellent publication.
