Product Description Get ready for a rousing rebel yell as bestselling author H.W. Crocker, III (Robert E. Lee on Leadership) charges through bunkers and battlefields in The Politically Incorrect Guide(TM) to the Civil War. Crocker busts myths and shatters stereotypes as he profiles eminent--and colorful--military generals while taking readers through chapters such as "The Civil War in Sixteen Battles You Should Know" and culminating in the most politically incorrect chapter of all, "What if the South Had Won." Revealing little-known truths, like why Robert E. Lee had a higher regard for African Americans than Lincoln did, this is the "P.I.G." that every Civil War buff and Southern partisan will want on their bookshelf, in their classroom, and under their Christmas tree.

Nothing lower than one star. July 2, 2010 Keltixx (Charleston SC) 2 out of 8 found this review helpful
Found this used for $1.00 and feel I was horribly overcharged. Since we do not have to worry about being politically correct, I guess it is OK to say that I found the book useless even as toilet paper. Save your money people. You will find this in the used bookstores pretty quickly. The only problem is that the pages may be stuck together from the body secretions of previous owners excited by the idea of still owning slaves.
You are better off spending your money on something well written and actually considered history: The Cause Lost: Myths and Realities of the Confederacy, by William C. Davis or This Mighty Scourge: Perspectives on the Civil War by James M. McPherson (highly recommended). Or you could just continue to be a racist coward who longs for the days when them uppity people were kept in their place.
(Born and raised in the South, BA and MA in History from a University in the South, a real one, not Bob Jones or that ilk, and a lifelong student of the US Civil War, focusing mainly on the Army of Northern Va. Hardly anti-south.)
P.S. I will not bother to read comments that are in all caps or suffer from exclamation pointitus.
Excellent Rebuttal To Biased Histories June 13, 2010 LtCol ret E. Kennedy, Jr. (Leavenworth, KS) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
As a graduate history instructor, I found this book to be a refreshing view of history. It's nice to read some critical reasoning that goes against the popular biases by presenting facts that are conveniently over-looked by many others. While detractors of this book will naturally try and rationalize their views, they normally make emotional, not factual analyzes and arguments to support their points. I deal with this all the time. I highly recommend this book to high school seniors and college undergraduates as an excellent basis to their understanding of the war.
Great insight May 23, 2010 FRANK I. STCHARLES (Bowling Green, KY USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book provides great information for those who want the facts about Lincoln, Lee, Grant, Davis and all those involved in the Civil War but most importantly, it provides the truth about why and how the war was fought. Eerily, there are similarities today about states rights and bullying by Washington DC. I am sick and tired of political correctness, it's a bunch of bull and everyone should have the right to agree or disagree without being profiled or labeled. As is the case today the biased news media incorrectly labeled the Civil War as a war about slavery and racism instead of states rights.
Truth Revealed May 7, 2010 James Westbrook (Knoxville, TN, US) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
To a Civil War buff, this was most informative. It nicely relayed the facts without regard to what is generally accepted as TRUTH. A great addition to my period collection!
