 Dark is Good December 1, 2008
I have always been intrigued by night photography and have been trying it out on my own for a few years. This book has lots of gorgeous pictures and good tips on how to get the same effects yourself. My main gripe is that many of those good tips are printed in very small type, in white, on a black background. The black background looks slick, but it's very hard to read for those of us with senior vision.
It's a good book, though, and if you are interested in night photography, it's worth the money.

As soon as we decided to spend a year in Norway I knew I needed Jill Waterman's book, Night & Low-Light Photography. I wasn't thinking so much about the summer months, when it never gets dark here, but for the winter months when the sun barely crosses the horizon. The book is very satisfying and inspiring. I've already applied a couple of the book's techniques to my project, with exceptional results. I especially like the section on shooting northern lights, which I hope to do myself later this winter. I really like the format of the book and know from experience how hard it is to organize so much complex material. Not only is Jill Waterman an outstanding photographer but she knows how to translate the experiences of her colleagues into readable, easy to follow techniques. Nice work Jill!

I usually find instructional photography books a snooze. This book is a rare exception - both beautiful and constantly inspiring to look at with lots of concrete, helpful information. A must for anyone interested in learning how to shoot at night.

Wow I was really glad to stumble onto this book. Informative and fun to browse--I like the textbook style.
