Product Description Kaplan's ASVAB 2010 Edition offers detailed information about the test and reviews the different subjects a potential recruit needs to know, including Word Knowledge, Arithmetic Reasoning, General Science, Mechanical Comprehension, and more.
Features include:
* 3 full-length practice tests with detailed answer explanations * Overview of key math concepts * Key Vocabulary Word List * Strategies for the computer-adaptive ASVAB * Content review for each of the subjects covered on the test * Effective test-taking strategies Approximately 1.3 million students take the ASVAB each year, including 400,000 recruits and 900,000 high school students.
The ASVAB is offered year-round at more than 14,000 high schools as well as recruiting stations in either paper-and-pencil or computer adaptive format (70% take the computer version).
ASVAB is a battery comprising 10 tests that measure verbal, mathematics, and science/technical skills and knowledge. The AFQT, a composite of ASVAB tests, measures verbal (word knowledge and paragraph comprehension) and mathematics (arithmetic reasoning and mathematics knowledge) abilities.
In addition to determining enlistment eligibility, ASVAB scores are combined into composites and used to assign new recruits into military occupations (e.g., mechanical, electronics, or administrative jobs).
The ASVAB is given once or twice a year at thousands of high schools across the country. The computer-based ASVAB is also given year round at Military Entrance Processing Stations.

ASVAB Study Guide vs, Practical Use March 19, 2010 Mattew D. Hause 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
To begin, Kudos to Amazon for processing & shipping this product in a timely manner, and having it arrive in a condition that was better than expected. It certainly saved a few $ from buying it from a major retailer.
That said, despite this being the 2010 version, upon taking the ASVAB I quickly realized that very little of the information and preps found within were actually applicable to the subject matter of questions and topics covered on the actual test. Fortunately, it didn't prevent me from scoring extremely well, but I would recommend that rather than spending money on a "study prep" for the actual test itself, that instead you merely have (or acquire) a good working knowledge of the latest science principles/disciplines, and not just the fundamental basics covered in this particular guide. I can say with surety that my score had little to nothing to do with information I obtained from this book, but rather from simply having a broad education in, understanding of, and/or working background in a multitude of subjects and theories to begin with that were actually found on my particular test.
In this writer's opinion, only strongly consider purchasing this book if you are in dire need of a refresher on high-school level algebra and geometry (which is information that can be readily obtained online if you fall into that category). The rest of the subjects this book covers: geology, basic electronics theory, basic mechanical knowledge, automotive systems, etc. hardly appeared on the actual test at all, and applied more to the most modern systems and technologies than this book presents.
And bear in mind, the AFQT score and your GT score are really where the weight falls for either your MOS selection "choices", or OCS consideration in regards to the ASVAB results. Best of luck!
Great March 16, 2010 Jason Gardiner This book helped me alot with learning the material I needed to know. Before I read this book I had no idea what to study, after I studied and took the Asvab I scored highest in my school.
Passed the asvab with a 84% used this book to study March 12, 2010 Keith Brauneis Being a college senior I was a little nervous about the asvab as I have not taken any math courses in years now. This book was a great refresher and contained detailed information on what to expect on the asvab. The practice tests were great as they had explanations with the answer keys to make sure you comprehend the questions you miss. If you are looking to patent your math and reading skills before taking the asvab I highly recommend this book as the questions on the actual asvab mimicked every problem set for math and reading in this study guide. I do not give a five star because the mechanical and electrical examples did not show up on the actual exam.
