| Editorial Reviews:

Good book, bad edition November 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This classic piece of Colonial Latin American Literature is a must if indeed one wants to understand the Aztec way of life in the XVI Century. Sahagun delivers all matters of state, religion, language, nature and history in both volumes of his Historia General. Though originally written in Nahuatl, the author himself took upon him the arduous task of translating to Spanish and he even wanted to translate to Latin. As a scholar of the Renaissance humanism, Sahagun's Historia General is well organized and he paid attention to all details given by the natives about their culture. As a Franciscan priest, Sahagun believed that his work would serve for the Christianization of the Indians. Two different views, one amazing man.
The edition brought to us by Linkgua includes all twelve books. However, for the price, this edition lacks of too many things. It does not have any type of introduction to the writer or his work. Also, it has many typos along the way. It does not include the Nahuatl version not any of the drawings of the original piece.
Porrua's edition includes a much better edition. Only one book has both volumes with a fantastic introduction by Angel M. Garibay. And the price is even less that just one volume of the Linkgua edition.
Though I highly recommend the book, I don't recommend this expensive edition of it.
