Product Description
Iranian-born scholar Vali Nasr has become one of America's leading commentators on current events in the Middle East, admired and welcomed by both media and government for his "concise and coherent" analysis (Wall Street Journal, front-page profile). In this "remarkable work" (Anderson Cooper), Nasr brilliantly dissects the political and theological antagonisms within Islam, providing a unique and objective understanding of the 1,400-year bitter struggle between Shias and Sunnis and shedding crucial light on its modern-day consequences.

Great Deal September 24, 2008 This was a special from Amazon during a no shipping promotion. I paid less than my classmates, and mine was hardcover while theirs was paperback. Great deal. Thanks.
Almost perfect September 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The author's historical, religious and socio-political dissection and study of the fabric of Shia and its development in the Islamic world is absolutely magnificent. If you need to understand what Shia is, its dogma, philosophy and importance on major political events, read this book. I enjoyed this book and I recommend it in a heart beat!
A Must Read for Anyone Who Wants to Understand Islam August 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
"The Shia Revival" is, in fact, a history of Islam and its divisions. In this short, concise, readable volume, the reader learns how Sunni, Shia and Wahabi Islam emerged from the same teachings of Mohammed. Most important, it reviews the conflicts between the various approaches to Islam from their historical, economic, political and social aspects. This book should be read by everyone who wants to fully understand the consequences of this religion in today's world.
Helped me understand August 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I read this book last year and found it to be very informative about the religious and political forces that are shaping the Middle East. Maybe John McCain should read this book before he goofs up any more questions about who is funding the "Al Quaeda" in Iraq. Knowlege is Power.
