A haunting read...April 18, 2004 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Of it's type, I give Battlefield Ghosts 5 stars. The author-historian is a Licensed Battlefield Guide at Gettysburg. The book would be great background reading for you or the kids to awaken interest if you're planning a tour of some battlefields. Each chapter provides a bite-size bit of history, sugar-coated with the ghost story. Each haunting is choice. My favorite story was the author's wife's witnessing the 17-mile-long line of wagons evacuating the Confederate wounded at Lee's retreat from Gettysburg. Whether you're interested in the history or the ghost stories, this book should please you.

Mr. Toney sometimes gets bogged down in details but all in all this is a very good book. A must read for anyone interested in the trail of spirits left after the most bloody four years in American history.

This book covers the battlefield of the civil war and the remains of it, which are now ghosts. This is an in depth look into the ghosts of the bloodiest war in the history of the united states. I would recommend it more for someone who is interested in wars of america.
