Product Description

A story of seeking-and finding-God's will in unlikely places.

Gabrielle Fairbanks has nearly lost touch with the carefree, spirited young woman she was when she married her husbandfifteen years ago. But when the couple moves to Chicago to accommodate Philip's business ambitions, Gabby finds the chance to make herself useful. It's there she meets the women of Manna House Women's Shelter; they need aProgram Director-and she has a degree in social work. She's in her element, feeling God's call on her life at last, even though Philip doesn't like the changes he sees in her. But things get rough when Philip gives Gabby an ultimatum: quit her job at the shelter or risk divorce and losing custody of their sons. Gabby must take refuge, as in the song they sing at Sunday night worship: "Where do I go when there's no one else to turn to? . . . I go to the Rock I know that's able, I go to the Rock."

5 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!!   January 4, 2009
I read the Yada Yada series and was absolutely blown away by the realistic issues that were presented and how the prayer group was able to "pray their way through" each problem. I was looking forward to the next series, but didn't want to give up the "new friends" that I met in the Yada Yada series...then comes Where do I go? What an amazing book set once again in Chicago and has some of my old friends from Yada Yada woven into the fabric of the novel. I work on the infamous Michigan Avenue and feel like I am an "extra" on the train as Gabby makes her way on the Red line to the shelter each day. I can't wait for the next book due out in September. In the meantime I just began Neta's husband's parallel book, Harry Bentley's Second Chance and so far it is amazing as well!!

5 out of 5 stars Loved it!   January 1, 2009
I found this book a great read. I was drawn in quickly to the story and found the characters interesting and kept me wanting to know more. I began to root for the main character Gabby as God slowly began to affect her life and draw her in a direction she didn't necessarily see herself. I found that the plot held elements that I think anyone can relate to especially in their own walk with God. The whole situation may not be your life but dealing with issues of loneliness and direction I think can affect everyone. I have only one major issue with this book and that is that it ended leaving me wanting to find out more and longing to know what happens next and the next installment is not published. I can say that I will be pre-ordering the next book as soon as I hear that is out to catch up with characters I view almost now as old friends!!

5 out of 5 stars Powerful book on God never leaving.   December 29, 2008
If you are a fan of Neta Jackson's Yada Yada book series, you are going to love her new book. Gabrielle's husband Phillip was offered a job of a lifetime, but to pursue it they have to move to Chicago and away from everything familiar. Living in a penthouse on Chicago's lakeshore, Gabrielle had everything she could ever wish for material wise, but at the same time her marriage was falling apart.

While walking along Chicago's lakeshore, she has a chance encounter with a homeless woman. Through this homeless woman Gabrielle is introduced to a woman's shelter needing a program director. Gabby has finally found what God had in mind for her all along. What Gabby was not prepared for is her husband's ultimatum to either quit her job or get out! Where does one turn, when every thing is taken away from you?

This book opens the reader's eyes to the wonderful work many homeless shelter workers perform. Neta Jackson also reminds us life does not always have the "happily ever after" we dream of. When everything is taken away from Gabby she remembers a song she recently learned, "Where do I go when there's no one else to turn to? . . . I go to the Rock I know that's able, I go to the Rock."

5 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Read!   December 27, 2008
To the outside world, Gabby Fairbanks would seem to have it all - a wealthy, successful husband, a penthouse apartment, and two sons she loves, but appearances are not everything. She has just been uprooted to Chicago for her husband's new business venture, is having marital difficulties, and her children are hundreds of miles away at boarding school. She is lonely and lost. When she trips over Lucy, a homeless woman, at the beach, she is introduced to Manna House, a local homeless shelter for woman. She soon begins to spend more and more time there, to her husband's chagrin. The staff and residents there offer her acceptance and an outlet for her God-given talents. She also begins rediscovering a relationship with God. She is attempting to trust in God and do what God wants, but it isn't helping things go any smoother. Her marriage is even more on the rocks, her mother needs care, and her relationship with her sons is challenging at best. Gabby is a likable character and readers will truly care about what happens to her. It is a very enjoyable read. The only caveat in reading this book is that there is no definite resolution. As part of a series, readers will need to wait another year to find out what happens to Gabby. I'm looking forward to the next installment.
